About us · The legacy we inherit
Our mission stays the same: empowering individuals to rebuild their lives.
For more than three decades, the Skid Row Housing Trust helped define permanent supportive housing in Los Angeles. But the ideas of the past are not suited to today's challenges. We are working on the solutions today requires.
Hope exists to take on that legacy responsibly. Our first obligation is to our residents. Building on the Trust's model, we let each resident decide how far they want to go while supporting every step of their journey.
The housing continuum
Support steps down as independence grows. Transitional housing is the bridge in; every stage after it is a real home with a lease, and people can move at their own pace, or stay.
Stable, temporary housing through partner programs, so people have a safe place to land while they prepare for a permanent home.
A private apartment, plus a case manager who connects each person to the services they need. The goal is stability, health and a sense of belonging.
Rent-restricted apartments for residents who are working or ready for more independence, with help still close by.
A home chosen on one's own terms, whether a market-rate rental, shared housing or a path toward ownership.
Moving on is an invitation, never a condition. No one loses their home in permanent supportive housing for choosing to stay. Every step forward is voluntary.
Dignity and community
A Residents Council, chosen by residents, with a real say in rules, programs and priorities.
Trauma-informed staff, clear house rules applied fairly, and privacy treated as a right.
Community rooms, rooftop gardens, shared meals, and art and music programs offered with partners, that turn a building into a neighborhood.
Consistent case managers and trusted partner providers, so trust has time to form.

We are identifying retail opportunities within our buildings to build out and provide to social enterprises. The goal is to activate the ground plane, develop a sense of community, provide much needed services for the community, and provide job training opportunities to our residents.

We are forming a Residents Council so residents have a real voice in decisions that affect their homes, and a direct, regular way to work with management on concerns, priorities and improvements.
We are looking for an opportunity to acquire a site in the area to become Hope Park: a safe, secure outdoor space for Hope residents to relax, gather and spend time outside.

Today, getting someone housed through Los Angeles' Coordinated Entry System (CES) can take months of paperwork, assessments and waiting, while the person stays on the street and available units sit empty.
Housing in Minutes is our pilot to get past that gridlock. When we have an opening, we work to match a person to it and move them in right away, instead of through the multi-month paperwork shuffle.
Services and jobs · Through our partners
We connect residents to trusted partner organizations and stay alongside them through the process, from the first night off the street to a first paycheck.
We connect residents to partner providers for mental health counseling, addiction recovery and physical health care.
We connect individuals to the assistance they need.
We connect residents to job training and employment partners for one-on-one coaching, resume workshops, interview preparation and career counseling, along with financial literacy and life skills programs.

Hart District Management manages Hope's properties day to day: leasing, maintenance, building operations and the staff that residents see every day. Our aim is simple: stronger communities and brighter tomorrows.
What we do

Oversees day-to-day operations, budgets and compliance across every property.
Support site teams across groups of buildings and are the escalation point for resident concerns.
Live on site and are the first point of contact for residents, move-ins and building issues.
Handle repairs, work orders, inspections and day-to-day building upkeep.
Provide after-hours coverage, safety checks and support for residents in the evenings.
Keep hallways, common areas and shared spaces clean, safe and welcoming every day.
Front desk, administrative and office staff who keep operations running and help residents get answers.
