Introducing Pastor Se Hee Han …..
I was born and raised in Seoul, Korea, and came to the United States in 1981 to study at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena. My spiritual journey in the Ordained Ministry of the United Methodist Church had many ups and downs, until I came to understand the glimpse of God’s will in my life.
The period of 1981-1985 at Fuller Theological Seminary was a precious time in my spiritual journey. Every morning, I woke up with a shower of sunshine through my dormitory window and felt the overflowing love of God in my life. The Seminary also provided me a chance to reflect and learn about God, and about myself, in depth. Through that journey, I found “the glimpse of God’s will” in my life and I finally had the confidence to pursue the ordination process. In June of 1985 I received a Master of Divinity degree and later that fall I pursued a doctoral degree at the School of World Mission at Fuller Theological Seminary. I studied the cultural anthropological approach of the worldview, in order to understand the core values of people.
I was ordained as a probationary member in 1987 and became a full member of the UMC in 1991. My ministry career began in Los Angeles in 1982 while I studied at Fuller. During those early years I served the California Pacific Annual Conference as a Christian Education Consultant (1982-1985) and the Norwalk Evangelical KUMC as a Youth Director (1985-1987).
My appointments have been: West Los Angeles UMC (1987-1989), Executive Director of the Korean United Methodist Youth Center (1987-1992), Santa Monica First UMC (1992-1998), N. Glendale UMC (1998-2004), and El Segundo UMC (2004-2010).
At Conference level, I have served on the Board of Ordained Ministry of California-Pacific Annual Conference (1993-2003) and as a Jurisdictional conference delegate (1999-2003). I am currently serving in the Conference Finance and Administration, and am an Executive member of the Order of Elders.
At the national level of the UMC, I have served at the National Korean Plan as an Executive member (2000-2004), I have been the President of the National Korean Clergywomen’s Association (1995-1997) and the President of the National Association of Korean Pastors serving on Cross-Cultural Appointment (2007-2009).
I love to visit new places and spend time with friends, listen to classical and semi-classical music, and watch movies. I look forward making new friends in Culver Palms and am excited about meeting you all.
